How do I get funding?

Government funding for Home Care is managed through My Aged Care and you will go through an application process with My Aged Care to receive your funding.

Check your eligibility

Use the online tool or phone 1800 200 422.

Apply for an assessment

If you are eligible you will then Apply for an assessment on the My Aged Care website.

Have your assessment

An Aged Care Assessor will visit your home to assess your living arrangements, medical history, mobility and how you’re managing your daily activities. They will create a tailored support plan to determine eligibility for a homecare package.

Receive progress updates

You will learn whether you’re eligible for Home Care Package funding within two to six weeks. If not, you might qualify for alternative funding, such as the Commonwealth Home Support Program.

 

If you are eligible, congratulations! You’re approved and added to a national queue. Please note that wait times can range from 3-12 months at this stage.

Know what to expect from your assessment

The assessment will assess your needs and looks at a range of factors that include:

  • Your health and medical history
  • Your lifestyle and any health concerns
  • Any issues relating to home and personal safety
  • Your physical requirements and how you’re coping with completing daily tasks at home
  • Your psychological needs and if you’ve had any changes in memory
  • Your social needs and your current engagement with family and community
  • Any special needs or concerns
  • Any support you currently have

To prepare for the assessment, you may want to have some important information ready, such as:

  • Your Medicare number
  • Copy of any referrals from your doctor
  • Any information that you may want to discuss with the assessor
  • Your GP or health professional contact details
  • Information on any current support you receive
