What Happens While You Wait

Being approved for care is an important step, but your Support at Home funding may not be available straight away. Your wait will depend on factors including your priority category and when you were approved.

While you wait, you can start researching providers, understanding your potential contributions and thinking about the services that matter most to you.

You Can Talk to HCA Now

You don’t need to wait for your funding allocation letter to contact us. Our team can talk through your assessment outcome, answer your questions and help you prepare so you’re ready for the next step.

Our team can help you understand your next steps.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions below. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to get in touch with our team and we’ll be happy to help.

How Do I Know If I Have CHSP or Support at Home?

Start with your My Aged Care assessment outcome letter. This will tell you which aged care program and services you have been approved for.

CHSP generally provides entry-level support through approved individual services, while Support at Home provides more comprehensive ongoing support based on your assessed needs.

If you’re unsure what your letter means, talk to our team and we can help you understand your next steps.

What Is the Difference Between CHSP and Support at Home?

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) provides entry-level help for people who need some assistance to remain independent at home.

Support at Home is designed for people with more ongoing or complex care needs and provides access to a broader range of services based on your assessment and approved support.

I’ve Been Approved for Support at Home. Why Am I Still Waiting?

Being approved for Support at Home doesn’t necessarily mean your ongoing funding is immediately available. Your wait depends on factors including your priority category and the date you were approved.

My Aged Care will notify you when your funding has been allocated.

Can I Choose a Provider While I’m Waiting?

Yes. Your waiting period is a good opportunity to start researching providers, asking questions and deciding how you would like your care to work.

You can talk to HCA Home Care before your funding is allocated so you’re ready to move forward when it becomes available.

Can I Receive Support While I Wait for My Funding?

There may be options available depending on your circumstances. Some people may receive interim Support at Home funding, while privately funded home care may also be an option if you need support sooner.

Our team can talk through your situation and help you understand your options.

What Is Interim Support at Home Funding?

When waits for ongoing Support at Home funding are longer than expected, some people may be allocated interim funding. This provides part of your approved funding so you can begin accessing priority services while waiting for your full allocation.

How Will I Know When My Support at Home Funding Is Ready?

My Aged Care will send you a letter when your Support at Home funding has been allocated.

Once you receive your allocation, contact HCA Home Care and we can help you understand the next steps and get your services underway.
